Alice Helen Schlotfeldt Obituary (2023)

Alice Helen Schlotfeldt passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, after a long battle with COPD. She was born on August 31, 1936, in Wakapala, South Dakota, to Ben and Ann Schatz. At the age of one, the family moved to Yakima, where Alice lived majority of her life. She graduated from St. Joseph Marquette in 1954. She married Marvin Schlotfeldt on December 26, 1955, at St. Pauls Church, in Yakima, with whom she had three children. Later they divorced in 1986. She was very active in Chelminar Grotto for many years, being known as the "Corn Beef and Cabbage Queen." She worked at Snokist Cannery, as a floor lady, for 40 plus years. Her kitchen was always open for her kids and their friends. She was known for her fabulous pies and banana nut bread. Her grandkids and great-grandkids were her pride and joy. She loved when they came to visit, or she would go to California to see the ones there. She made frequent trips to California to visit her daughter and family. Alice is survived by her three children, Bruce (Cecilia) Schlotfeldt, Don (Lisa) Schlotfeldt of Yakima, daughter, Sheri (Monte) Griffith of Lodi, California , four grandchildren, Michael (Darcy) Schlotfeldt of Medical Lake, Kyle (Genna)Schlotfeldt of Yakima, Jessica Mogan of Lodi, California and Gabe Griffith of Concord, California, five great-grandchildren, Kylee Schlotfeldt of Medical Lake, Cooper and Addison Schlotfeldt of Yakima, Abigail and Zoey Mogan of Lodi, California, and two sisters, Fran Bauer of Spokane and Cecilia Slavin of Las Vegas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Ann Schatz, three sisters, Violet, Mildred and Elaine, and two brothers, Melvin and Cecil. We would like to thank the staff at Good Samaritan, especially Ceasar, Angela, Cami, and Faye. They took exceptional care of our dear mother. We would also like to thank Father Mike for your dedicated support of our mother. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 10:30am, at Holy Family Church.
