Arthur Roy Atkins Obituary (1932

Arthur Roy Atkins passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 after a long illness. He was born on November 20, 1932 in Alliance, NE to the late Bruce and Helen (Green) Atkins in his grandparents' basement. He is preceded in death by his brother Gary Atkins. Art graduated from Alliance High School in 1950 and then worked for Newberry's doing sheet metal work. He entered the US Navy in 1952 and was discharged in 1956 from Norfolk, VA. He was very proud to have served in the Navy on the USS Iowa (BB 61). After serving in the Navy he moved to Yakima, WA seeking a job but ended up in Pasco working for Foster's Sheet Metal. Art was a sports official in football, basketball and baseball in the Tri-Cities area in the late 1960's up through 1972. He married Ernestine Clark in 1956 but later divorced. To this union they had four children: Larry (Barb), Sue Glenndenning, Tammy (Lance) Ouellette, and Jim Atkins. He is also survived by his two sisters Clara Roes and Marlene (Ken) Libsack; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 9:00am - 10:45 am. and will be followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at Brookside Funeral Home chapel with Military Honors.
