Dinow Georges Obituary (1928

On August 2, 2015, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Dinow Georges, passed away after an extended illness. Dinow was born August 4, 1928, to Greek immigrants James and Ourania (Alex) Georges in Colville, Wa. He was the fourth of six children. He spent his early years in Colville and later moved to Yakima with his family when his father passed away. Dinow worked very hard to help support his mother and siblings. We recall Dinow's rendition of one day traveling to his job picking apples and seeing a sign that read "see the world, join the Marines" and so he did. Dinow was sent to the bitter cold of the Korean War. He was a very proud Marine, as they all are, and he served in the Marine Corps for four years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. After his military service, Dinow moved to Grandview to live with his sister, Mary, and her family. They loved having him there; Uncle Dinow was an unforgettable addition to their family. Dinow soon met Ramona Glazier and they were married and raised their three children in Grandview. Dinow worked for OK Tires, later Tire Town, where he masterfully ran the tire retread plant for many years. He loved big game hunting and time spent in the great outdoors with his family and friends. He also loved his mom's and sisters' homemade Greek cooking. Dinow was quite the prankster-- he would load up the fireplace with wood on Christmas Eve, pretending to forget that Santa Claus was coming! Dinow worked for Pistoristi Trucking in Toppenish for 24 years. He met and fell in love with Lila Dall, and they moved to Yakima. They were married on June 7, 2006. Dinow and Lila enjoyed fishing and camping together. Dinow loved his gardens and flowers. He spent many hours perfecting his cooking skills on the barbeque and the smoker. He was a skilled woodsman, and he had a funny story for every occasion. His dog and cat were very special to him. Very recently, Dinow and Lila moved to Ellensburg, where he passed away at home. He was a very kind and soft spoken man, always putting others before himself. He was loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed. Dinow is survived by his wife Lila, daughters Linda (Jim) Nicholson, of Yakima, Valerie (Blake) Dickinson, of Grandview, son Jim (Mary) Georges), of Satalite Beach, FL. Grandchildren Miles Metteer, of Richland, Megan (Sheldon) Weddle, of Kennewick, Bill Georges of Satalite Beach, FL. Great grandchildren Dallon, Miles Jr., Olivia, Emy and Erin. Sister Mary Vance, of Pasco. Brothers John Georges, of Weippe, ID and Pete (Jean) Georges, of Selah. Special niece, Meredith (Vance) Sandoz and her husband, Clark Sandoz, of Zillah . Step children, Debbie Clerf, Curtis and Melissa Goodwin. Step grandchildren Michelle Clerf and Elijah Goodwin. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Katherine Haley and Stella Gostovich, and twin infant sons. Special thanks are given to Ellensburg Hospice, Nurses Sally and Lisa, Aid Shannon Mc Daniel and Chaplain Janine Yoder.
