James Leo Ackerman Obituary (2024)

James Leo Ackerman 1940-1924 Jim leaves behind his beautiful wife and best friend of 64 years, Joyce, daughters Tammy Jones (Gerry), Dody Black (Landy) & Ronda Jo Alford (Tom) and son Marty. He leaves behind seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceding him in death, grandson Chet Ackerman and son-in-law Gerry Jones. Born in Minnesota, Jim and his young family moved to Washington in 1963 where he painted bridges for several years. He had many professions throughout his career, most involving a truck, either boom truck, taking up rail or long-haul driving. Jim and his family of six, moved to Ellensburg in 1973. They had a small acreage outside of Ellensburg with horses, cattle (baby calves that were bottle fed), pigs, a baby lamb (that would run into the farmhouse and jump on your lap like it was still a baby being bottle fed), roosters, chicken, geese, a couple of nasty peacocks and many farm cats. Jim always had a furry canine companion; Jackson will miss him greatly. In 1986, they move into town. Jim was blessed with a wonderful group of friends. You could find him and his coffee buddies early each morning at a local coffee shop. Jim loved to tell stories about his past adventures, his travels with work and those he loved most. He will be missed by all. Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19,2024, at the First Lutheran Church, 512 N. Ruby Street, Ellensburg, WA 98926.
