John Holt Calvert Obituary (2025)

John H Calvert, 85, of Yakima, WA passed away on October 1, 2025, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle WA with loved ones by his side. John was the youngest son born to Robert and Florence Calvert on April 28,1940 in Yakima, WA. He was raised on the Wenas family farm and attended Selah Schools graduating with the class of 1960. In 1961 he began his career with Yakima Cement and was drafted into the Army in 1963 where he was stationed at West Point, NY. While in the army, he was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. After his discharge, he returned to Yakima where he proudly built his home and resided there until his death. This is also when he jumped back into a cement truck and continued his career with Yakima Cement and then Graham Morris Co until his retirement in 1996. John met and married Gayle Parks in June of 1978, and with blended families, they were blessed to spend 47 wonderful years together. After retiring, John was able to spend many enjoyable years doing what he loved. These things included hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, woodworking, card playing, trips to casinos and traveling in their RV. He and Gayle always looked forward to their annual coastal trips with longtime dear friends Al and Lila Gangle and most recently joined and enjoyed traveling with their newly joined RV group, the Apple Rovers. Though he loved doing all the things mentioned, his greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John is survived by his loving wife, Gayle, his daughters Toni (Jim) Thomas and Candy Calvert; Grandchildren Matt (Madison) Thomas, Kelsee Robledo, Joel (Toni) Parks, Heaven Calvert; six great grandchildren, Jayden, Caleb, Charlie, Harlee, Beau and Violet; sister-in-law Lorraine Calvert and daughter in-law Keri Nelson. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, extended Davis and Moss families and many dear friends. He is proceeded in death by his parents; brothers Robert S (Bob) and Roland (Rollie) Calvert; sister Freda Dupuis and son Jeffrey Parks. At John's request there will be no formal service. There will be a potluck Celebration of Life on Saturday; October 25, 2025, at the Yakima Eagles; 307 W Chestnut Ave, Yakima, WA from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Our family would like to thank Swedish Hospital and Brookside Funeral Home and Crematory for the wonderful care of John. We also greatly appreciate all the thoughts and prayers from family and friends that we have received at this difficult time.
