Walter Harold Eller, Jr Obituary (2025)

Walter Harold Eller, Jr 87 Years Old Walter passed away at home on Saturday May 3, 2025, in Yakima, Washington. He was surrounded by his loved ones. Walter was born on July 9, 1937, in Spokane, Washington. He moved with his parents, Walter Sr and Viola to Yakima in 1952. He first attended Davis High School in Yakima. In 1953 he went to Naches High School in Naches, Washington. While at Naches High School he met his wife, Louise. They both graduated from Naches High School in 1956 and got married on August 15, 1956. They have two sons and a daughter. Walter joined the Army National Guard in July, 1955. He was a Master Sergeant in charge of an Anti-Aircraft Artillery Unit, located at the Yakima Firing Center. He then went to work for Garretson Fruit in Naches Heights and later for orchardist Jerry Vander Howen. With the growing family he went to work for Harold Schultz Furniture as their Drapery Installer. He then managed the Drapery workroom where they made the custom drapes. Walter was the Cub Scout Leader at the Lower Naches Elementary School. Walter was also very active in the Lower Naches Grange and was a member for over 60 years. He was the Grange Master for several years and the Grange sponsored Boy Scout Troop 264. He then became the Scout Master for Troop 264. He was then elected into the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow. In the Order of the Arrow, he obtained the Vigil Honor rank and served as an Advisor for many years. With his years of volunteering with the Boy Scouts, he received the Silver Beaver Award. Walter served on the Board of Directors for the Grange Library and Museum. Walter was also an avid Fisherman. In his later years he spent most of his time on the Columbia River in search of sturgeon and walleye. He would go salmon fishing in Ilwaco, Washington, with his fishing buddies. He enjoyed his weekly Coffee Club get togethers where they all told fishing stories. Walter is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louise. His children, Paul, David, Joan and their spouses. His Grandchildren, Brian, Chris, Kathrine, Elizabeth, Frank, and Victoria. His Great Grandchildren, Seamus, Michael, Charlie, Arrya, Rowan, Ivy and Arden. A Celebration of Life for Walter will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 2:00pm, at West Side Church located at 6901 Summitview Ave, Yakima, Washington.
