Alfred "Fred" F. Lenseigne Obituary (1943

Alfred Francis Lenseigne, age 81, of Yakima, Washington, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Memorial Hospital, in Yakima, Washington. Fred was born on August 12, 1943, in Yakima, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, to Albert and Emma (Marchand) Lenseigne. He attended Holy Rosary Grade School, Marquette, and East Valley High School. He was a star athlete in track, basketball, and football. He held records in football with most touchdowns and yards per carry that were held for over 50 years. He also completed one year at Columbia Basin Jr. College, where he played an undefeated football season. This earned his team a trip to the Jr. Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California in 1962. This team was inducted into the CBC Hall of Fame in 2020. He married his high school sweetheart, Jackie Wise, who he met at the Moxee pool when he was 13 years old. He impressed her with his high diving skills and good looks. He asked her to a party in the family hop kiln two weeks later and the rest is history. They were married June 23, 1962, at Holy Rosary Parish in Moxee, WA. Fred joined his father and brother in the hop farming business after college. Washington State Hop Producers, Inc. named him the Hop Man of the Year in 1970. He also had his own apple orchard. He retired from farming in 2000. Fred loved traveling to Hawaii, attending Seahawk games, going to his daughters' horse shows, gymnastic meets, and many softball and basketball games. He especially loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play all different kinds of sports. He was their biggest supporter and always had an encouraging word after their games that also included a hug, a big smile, and the words, "You know Pepe loves you and is proud of you!" Fred liked to keep in touch with his friends and find out what was going on in their lives. He had coffee with his high school friends often and visited his many special acquaintances in Moxee where everyone knew Fred. He is survived by the love of his life, Jackie, along with four daughters, Michele Gress (Randy), Cherie Trammell (Tim), Dana Schroeder, and Jill Baricevic (Davorin); grandchildren, Garrett Gress (Arianna), Lauren and Ryan Schroeder, and Mia, Sam, Anton and Max Baricevic. His great grandchildren were Emily Schroeder, Elliott, Micah and Zoe Gress and great-great grandchild Henry Schroeder. He is also survived by nephews Tim and Tony Lenseigne. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Alcide, son-in-law, Phil Schroeder, and grandson, Gavin Gress. A Rosary will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 4:00pm, at Holy Rosary Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on February 24, 2025, at 10:00am, at Holy Rosary Parish. A Graveside Service will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the Parish Hall.
