Antone Alba Honanie Obituary (2023)

Antone Alba "Thlaaxinskow" Honanie, 40, passed away on December 17, 2023, outside of Ellensburg, Washington. He was born on December 25, 1982, to Maynard and Jennie (Phillips) Honanie Sr., in Yakima, Washington. He was a member of the Yakama Nation and Hopi Tribe. Antone was raised on the Yakama Nation Reservation, graduating from Wapato High School in 2001. In high school, he played football, basketball, and baseball. After high school, he went to college at Southwest Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. It was at SIPI where he met his love, Jodi Begaye. Antone worked and lived in Gallup, New Mexico from 2003-2010 with Jodi. They celebrated their 20th anniversary in November. They have two beautiful children, Kyia (18), and Aidan (15), and the family dog, Skippy. Antone worked at Yakama Nation Housing Authority for six years. The last seven years, he spent at Legends Casino Hotel, as a Surveillance Supervisor for the Yakama Nation Gaming Commission. His favorite thing to do was watch his daughter play sports, make highlight reels, sell fireworks, build dog houses, work on vehicles, and joke around with his kids. He loved the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, and Marvel. He was an avid bowler, traveling to Indian bowling tournaments in Oregon, Reno, Carson City, and Las Vegas, Nevada. He was so proud of his highest game, 279! He had a great sense of humor and was always making everyone laugh. Antone is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Antone Phillips and Mary Shawaway, paternal grandparents, Clarence and Kathleen Honanie. of Kykotsmovi, Arizona. He is survived by his fiance, Jodi Begaye, daughter, Kyia, son, Aidan, parents, Maynard and Jennie Honanie, sisters, Stephanie (Bill) Wendt and Josephine Honanie (Juan Salinas Jr); brothers, Isadore Honanie (Maria Baker) and Maynard Jr (Victoria) Honanie, nieces and nephews, Philip, Ayla, Kyle, Sahara, Johnny, Demacia, and Iriss, and numerous other family members and friends. The family wants to recognize the following individuals who have assisted during this time: Washington State Patrol, Detective James Kukes, and Chaplin Bill Hinkle, Kittitas County Fire Department, Kittitas Valley Hospital Emergency Room staff, Brookside Funeral Home, Yakama Nation RAP office, Angeline Phillips, Raynel Begay, Reggie Walsey, Beverly and Gerry Lewis, Castro Family, traveling family from New Mexico and Arizona in-laws, Joseph (Shirley) Begaye and Cory Begaye, family Irene and Roger Tungovia, Lisa, Winona, Darren and Devon, and many more family and friends. A Viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 3:00pm, at Brookside Funeral Home. A Rosary will follow at 7:30pm, at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Wapato, WA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 8:00am, at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, followed by a burial at We-Yallup Cemetery, in Ahtanum.
