Bernard Stanley Elliott Obituary (2024)

On March 23, 2024, the Lord carried Ben away, peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend, who touched the lives of everyone he met. His kindness, generosity, compassion, and giving nature will be dearly missed by so many. Ben was born August 11, 1955, in Petaluma, California, to Stan and Doris Elliott. He moved to the Yakima Valley in 1975, and a short time later met the love of his life, Shari. They were married for 48 years, and had three children, Mindy, Stephanie, and Bryan. He provided a good life, and he instilled in them the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. He also enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. From a young age, Ben was drawn to construction, and it remained a huge part of his life. From being the warehouse foreman at Ziggy's Lumber, to maintenance supervisor at Del Monte, to eventually owning his own construction business. His kidney failure forced him to retire, but he took a job at Stanton Academy and helped develop their construction program. His passion to serve his community started in 1976, when he joined the Terrace Heights Fire Department. During his 25 years with the department, he volunteered and ran the annual pancake feed, Fire Buster program, EDITH house, and finally retired as a Captain. He installed over 10 playground structures at schools across the valley. He also served as the Safety Safari Director for the NHRA Division 6, until he had to retire due to his first kidney transplant. Bens battle with his health started back in 2007, and he faced every new diagnosis with faith, perseverance, and Shari by his side. We will forever be grateful for his determination and strength to fight, especially in the past year. He constantly chose time with his family over his own pain. He will ALWAYS be the strongest man we will ever know. He is survived by his wife, Shari, beloved dog, Lily, children, Mindy, Stephanie, Bryan (Andrea), seven grandkids, Ezra, Micaiah, Boaz, AJ, Hadi, Kalla, Zephaniah, his brothers, Ron (Jeri), and Mike, sister, Jean, sister-in-law, Kim, and numerous nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stan and Doris, mother-in-law, Mary, sister, Kathy, brothers-in-law, Douglas Thayer and Mike Hansford. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 1:00pm, at Memorial Bible Church. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family.
