Carl Lloyd Maxwell

–

Ellensburg, Washington

Carl Loyd Maxwell, age 91, passed away on May 11, 2022, at his home in Yakima, Washington. Carl was born on April 14, 1931, to Leonard Maxwell and Violet (Gowey) Maxwell, in Flora, OR.

When he was 18, he joined the Army and fought in the Korean War. While on a leave of the base in Yakima, he met his wife Helen L. Breaum. After his honorable discharge, Carl and Helen raised their family on Helens grandparents homestead, and he helped work the land when it was a pear orchard, way back when, to the current hay field it is now.

Through the years he accomplished 30+ years for Yakima County, attended New York Institute for Photography, did maintenance for the Suntides RV Court, worked for Kuney Construction for about 10 years, Kiewit Construction for about 5 years, Doug Gary Land Surveying for about 3 years, and owned his own car painting business. Carl loved to keep busy. He had an abundance of hobbies over the years. From horseshoe metal art, creating rock jewelry with stones he cut and sanded, and wood working on the scroll saw making intricate pieces. To golfing, being in a jeep club, and the Cascade Snowdrifters snowmobile club. He also very much enjoyed watching the quail run on the property, long drives to old destinations, and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow.

He loved his family and friends, was a man of his word, and never met a stranger. Having a quiet evening, with a hotty totty in hand, was his favorite way to wind down the days. We will miss slowing down at the end of the driveway, waiting, and watching, for the waves we would get from that big front window.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Violet Maxwell, his wife, Helen L. Maxwell, and his son, Joe L. Maxwell. He is survived by his children, Ken Maxwell (Evelyn), Glenn Maxwell, Cynthia (Rob) (Maxwell) Zable, and daughter-in-law, Juanita Maxwell. As well as 10 grandchildren, 20 greatgrandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will he held on May 25, 2022 at 1:30pm, at the West Hills Memorial Park (11800 Douglas Road, Yakima, WA 98909). A Celebration of Life after the Graveside will be held at the VFW (118 S 5th Ave, Yakima, WA 98901).
