Clendon Henickson Obituary (1927

Clendon L Hendrickson, 88, of Wenatchee, died December 8, 2015, with his wife Kay and daughter Pauline by his side. He was born to the late George Hendrickson and Viola Weatherbee, May 9, 1927, in Ashton, Idaho. Clen graduated from Yakima High School in 1945, received a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Washington, and an MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. He met Kay Elliott while they were both attending Yakima High. They were married in 1951, and they lived in Southern California for many years before relocating to Washington in 2014. After spending a year in the US Army and five years working as a surveyor on the Skagit River, Clen realized his true passion was in aviation, and studied Aeronautical Engineering at UW. He then enjoyed a richly rewarding career flight testing experimental aircraft at the Air Force Flight Center, at Edwards Air Force Base in the high desert of Southern California, until his retirement in 1987. Clen and Kay raised three daughters and one son. Clen enjoyed family activities with children and grandchildren, such as boating, water skiing, swimming, snow skiing, and traveling by motor home. Clen was active in the 4-H club with his children, teaching them how to care for their animals and facilitating their participation in the local club and Antelope Valley Fair competitions. Clen always supported Kay's love of nature photography, encouraged her creativity, and cheered her successes. They shared many photography trips together. Clendon is survived by his wife Kay, and by his four children: Janette Barnes, of Palmdale, CA; Pauline Bowie, of Seattle, WA; Donna Chambers, of Leithfield Beach, New Zealand; and Roderick Hendrickson, of Boise, ID. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Yakima.
