Concha Soto Martinez Obituary (1922

Concha Soto Martinez, 92, made her transition into the loving house of the Lord on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Landmark Care Center in Yakima. She had many family members, friends and LCC staff by her side. Prayers, last rites, and a rosary were held at her bedside for a safe transition to The Lord. May she be well received by our ancestors waiting to welcome her home. She was a faithful follower of the Roman Catholic Church and placed all her trust in God. Also, at her bedside, the day before she went to be with the Lord her birthday was celebrated with joy and celebration with family and LCC staff. Wishing her a safe transition into eternal life. Concha was born in Coolidge, Kansas on December 26, 1922 to her parents Erculano Soto and Delores Angiano Soto both of Mexico. She loved her parents immensely. At the age of 20 she married her husband Frank (Francisco) Escobar Martinez on November 2, 1942. They lived in Torrington, Wyoming and started their family. They moved to the Yakima Valley in the late 1940s and resided in Toppenish since the late 1950s. Concha was bilingual in English and Spanish. She was taught her Spanish writing skills by her father. When she and her husband moved to Washington, she corresponded via mail with her family each week. We would run to the post office to see if there was a letter from Grandpa and she would read it in the car for news of family. As a young woman, she helped family and friends with interpretation and translation. She was always of service to those in need. Concha was/is a phenomenal woman with a pioneer spirit. Not only was she a nurturing mother but also a caring wife. She attended to her husband for 30 years as he struggled with being debilitated by diabetes. She never left his side and were married for 44 years at the time of his home going. After the death of her husband, Concha traveled to Seattle and Los Angeles many times. She enjoyed visiting her adult children and grandchildren. Concha also enjoyed her gardening and specifically the yellow roses that she and her husband enjoyed for many years. They had a garden of chilis, tomatoes, and cucumbers. She enjoyed canning for winter such as chilis, tomatoes, peaches, pears, and applesauce. Her nurturing personality was evident in her constant homemade meals. A great mother indeed to all her children. Concha is preceded in death by her parents, Erculano Soto and Delores Angiano Soto, a sister, Berta Negrette, 4 brothers, Ignacio Soto, Alejandro Dominguez, Juan Dominguez, and Candelario Soto; her son, Ernesto (Ernie) Martinez and her youngest child, daughter, Sally E. Martinez. Concha is survived by her sons, Lorenzo (Larry) E. Martinez of Toppenish, Lupe E. Martinez of Sherman Oaks, CA, step-son, Art Rodriguez of Pueblo, CO and daughters, Helen E. Moreno of Seattle, WA and Raquel Soto Escobar of Los Angeles, CA. Concha is survived, as well, by many wonderful nieces and nephews in Washington and Wyoming, 17 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren. Prospect, Moxee WA from Noon to 5:30pm with Rosary to follow. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Saturday January 3, 2015 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 213 N Beach St. Toppenish WA at 9:00am with Burial to follow at Zillah Cemetery.
