Delbert Lee Boss Obituary (2023)

Delbert Boss, 71, of Selah, passed away unexpectedly due to heart issues, on November 25, 2023, at MultiCare-Yakima Memorial Hospital. Delbert was born to Frank and Iona Boss, in San Diego, California, on April 1, 1952. He was raised in Seattle and intermittently the Yakima area. Delbert completed his basic education at the Woodland Public School District, of Seattle, Washington. After graduation, he returned to the Yakima Valley, to work with Ivan Meacham, his stepfather. Ivan owned the Yakima Car Battery Shop. Delbert had the magic touch, he could work on any dead battery and transform them into a fully charged/hold a charge battery. Delbert moved onto Yakima Specialties, as a job coach, working with people that needed assistance in completing job tasks. Delberts favorite workstation was being a substitute leader on the giant band saw. Delberts most valued employer was Yakima Valley Schools, DSHS. In 1973, Viki Abroe hired him through the CETA Program, as a temporary recreational aide. After several months, Superintendent Joe Fram, witnessed Delberts patience, kindness and caring that he demonstrated each day to many individuals that lived in Yakima Valley Schools (YVS). Most residents had severe to moderate developmental disabilities and were behaviorally challenged. This was never an obstacle for Delbert. He always had love in his heart to work with anyone at YVS. In that moment, Joe Fram directed Delbert to apply for a permanent Attendant Counselor 1 position. After 35 years, Delbert created lifelong friendships with coworkers and the people that lived at YVS. Still to this day, a few residents call out his name. Delbert enjoyed four-wheeling, fishing, and camping. His favorite memory was when Flossy put one too many logs on the fire. She tripped and flew into the fire. No injuries, just a ruined coat and a new nickname, "Fire Goddess." The last time Delbert went fishing was with his nephew, Jimmy Wayne. Delbert was standing very close to the edge of the pond, with both hands on his pole, his boots lodged onto a pile of underwater rocks. He fell face first into the pond. Delberts one hand was free and the other hand still on the pole. He attempted to push himself up from the water, then suddenly realized this was a deep pond. Sputtering with a mouth full of water, Jimmy Wayne came to his rescue. He pulled his uncle to safety. Delbert was very grateful. Delberts favorite moments were spending time with his immediate family, even doing nothing, just hanging out together and being their authentic selves. Gaining Jaydens nickname "The Old Man." Delbert is survived by his former wives, DeAnna Englehardt-Boss, Martha Thatcher, Laura Dicks and Janice Miller, his children, Desirae Boss, Tina White (Bob), Trisha McIntyre (Brian), and Sarah Boss, grandchildren, BriAnna Boss (Jorden Sheets), Austin Rohwer, Diamond Guzman, Quinten McIntyre, and Lachlan McIntyre, great-grandchildren, Elliana Sheets, Jayden Sheets, Nathaniel Sheets, Ezekiel Rohwer, Eliyas Rohwer, Varieya Rohwer, sisters, Flora Brown (Gary), Joanie Alderman (Randy), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Carollee Monteaka Kay Boss-Fisher, siblings, Susan VanZant, Russell Boss, Kathleen Quilty, Robert "Bob" Hayes, his parents, Frank and Iona Boss, grandparents, Gilbert and Lily Boss. Delbert was forever grateful to his beloved lifelong friends, Denise Jones (Steve), Randy Buttery (Olivia), Angie Gilmore, James Watkins, Cecelia Pease (Bill), the entire Jankowski Family.
