Durmma May Seiber Obituary (1931 - 2026)

Durmma May Seiber, 94, of Wenatchee Washington, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026. Durmma was born July 30th, 1931, in Blanca, Colorado to parents Omer Herbert Eagle and Bertha May (Sartain) Eagle. The name Durmma came to her father in a dream. She attended school in Mosca near the Great Sand Dunes in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. The eldest of five sisters, she and her family experienced the hardships of the Great Depression. She was a member of the Greatest Generation and experienced the difficulties of World War II. She married a boy from her hometown, Edward Belveal, who was a soldier returning from the Pacific. Her wedding gown was hand- sewn from a silk parachute he had brought home from Japan. They moved to Oregon, had five children, but later divorced. For several years, Durmma was a single parent long before it was a common thing. She was the sole breadwinner, working as a US postal carrier, at White’s Electronics, and hoeing mint on local farms. In 1970 she met Richard Dale Seiber. They were happily married and had one son, Troy Dale Seiber. Sadly, Mr. Richard Seiber passed away just five years later. She would remain his widow, Mrs. Seiber, for the rest of her life. She was deeply inspired in her Christian faith by her first grandmother-in-law, Alma Belveal, whom she considered her personal mentor and life role model. "As Great Grandma said…." was a familiar phrase heard by Durmma's children. She was acquainted with farm life, proudly growing and canning vegetables and fruit. She enjoyed creative sewing, quilting, and making home improvements. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. Some of the best family times ever were camping in the mountains of Oregon. Durmma was an encourager and a nurturer. She was known to teach her kids' friends from the neighborhood how to sew, cook, and grow a vegetable garden. She volunteered in church and schools her children attended and opened her home to youth activities. In her later years she loved to travel, visiting family and friends around the western United States. She stayed in touch and never missed a wedding, graduation, or birth of a new grandbaby. Her children will always know her as their loving Mom, kind and caring with an inner strength that grew through the years. She was adored by many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. And doubtless, the phrase, "As Great Grandma said…" will be heard now and again. Durmma is survived by her sister, Sabrie Ophillia Brown of Colorado; daughter and son in law, Stephenie and Randy Hurst of Marion, Illinois; sons and daughters in law, Rick and Cheryl Belveal and Troy and Deina Seiber of Wenatchee, Washington, and Roger and Mary Belveal of Frisco, Texas. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her baby brother, Rockie Terryl Eagle; parents Omer and Bertha Eagle; sisters, Thurmma Rena Brown, Vinnia Lou Brinegar, and Ermma Lee Hart; son, Robbin Nyle Belveal, and daughter, Sharon May Eagle.
