Elise Marylyn Cote Obituary (2024)

Peacefully and surrounded by family, Elise went home to meet her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the age of 91. She spent her whole life preparing for this joyous day, always running each decision through the filter of what would Jesus want me to do, then doing that. Elise was raised in Moxee, Washington and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1951. She married Albert Cote in 1953 and they enjoyed 70 years together, until Als death in December 2023. They made a great team, dad the more outgoing and mom the more reserved steady consistent force. The couple was blessed with five children, David (Christine) of Selah, Chris (Mary Ann) of Juanita, John of Yakima, Michelle Betcone (Bob) of Portland, and Lisa Gleason (Tom) of Seattle, seven grandchildren, Aly Silva (Cesar Silva), James Cote, Mike Cote, Elise Gleason, Maria Gleason, Gabriella Gleason, and Brian Betcone, and four great-grandchildren, Oliver, Lucy, Tommy, and Mariana Silva. "Mimi" holds a special place in the hearts of her seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She will be missed, but the example she set lives on through them. Elise loved being a mom and running a busy household of seven. She worked tirelessly at feeding and nurturing her active family, as well as the many friends invited to join meals. Many so frequently, that our mom became like a second mother to a handful of them. All the while educating them on the importance of faith and family, not by preaching but by her consistent example. She loved antiquing and the hunt for treasures. She was a great cook. One of her specialties was French meat dressing, and our family couldnt celebrate a holiday without it. Surprising to some, due to her mild-mannered ways, she also enjoyed getting together with friends and heading to the casino to play the one-armed bandits. She volunteered at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop for many years. As a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church, she served for many years on the hospitality committee, laundering and pressing altar linens, and a power prayer on many prayer chains. She was especially devoted to the Virgin Mary and St. Therese of Lisieux, who she credits with a miracle in her own life. Our family would like to acknowledge the great caregivers who compassionately have tended to our parents needs. Our angel from Heaven, live-in caregiver, Lata (Susie) Ifalani, Theresa Mottet, Karen Holzer, Pat Dilbeck, and Elizabet Sanchez, as well as the support offered by everybody at Multicare Memorial Hospice, especially our rockstar nurse, Daryl Leonard. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2024, from 3:00-5:00pm, at Brookside Funeral Home (500 W Prospect, Moxee, WA), with a Rosary at 4:00pm. A Celebration of her simple life, richly lived, will be held with a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 10:00am, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Yakima, WA.
