Everett Jerry Wells Obituary (2024)

Everett Jerry Wells, age 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Monday morning, February 19, 2024, in his home, in Gleed, Washington, after a long illness. Jerry was born on September 15, 1938, in Spokane, Washington, to Oscar Snoden Wells and Margaret Mae McKenzie. Jerry was educated in the Yakima School District, graduating from Yakima High School in 1957, where he participated in band and track. After high school he joined the Navy, serving from 1957 to 1959 on the destroyer tender USS Piedmont. Upon an honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked as a Journeyman Carpenter helping to build the Nob Hill overpass. After earning his vocational certificate in technology and Bachelors of Arts degree in Education from Central Washington University, he was hired by Yakima Valley Community College in 1968 to teach computer science and programing where he worked for 31 years retiring in 2002. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1957. He married his childhood friend, Royann Sumerlin, on March 19, 1960, in Yakima, Washington. Royann and Jerry and their children were sealed as a family for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple, in April 1965. He enjoyed singing in the choir and providing service to others. He helped in the construction of the Chapel on 38th Avenue in Yakima. He helped build the Naches Ward Float, used for the Naches Sportsman Day Parade for several years. He sang lead with the Valley of the Sun Barbershop Chorus. He loved his family and grandchildren, often telling them dad jokes. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Danny, Robert, David, Albert, and sisters, Evelyn, Dorothy, and his granddaughter, Christina Cuellar. He is survived by his wife, Royann (Sumerlin) Wells, brother, Phil, and sister, Goldie, children, Kathy (Wells) Billings, Susan Wells, and Everett Jerry Wells Jr., 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be Friday March 1, 2024, at 11:00am, at the Church of Jesus Christ Stake Center (705 South 38th Ave., Yakima, Washington).
