Frances Fae Pfaff Obituary (2023)

12/12/1943 5/12/2023 On Friday, May 12, 2023, Fran lost her short battle with cancer. She was 79 years old. Fran married James Smith in 1963 and divorced in 1969. They had two sons, Christopher, who passed away at 14 days old, and Jeff, who resides in Yakima. Fran then met the love of her life, Lynn Pfaff. They enjoyed Jeeping, Saturday nights at Yakima Speedway, Sand Drags, and snowmobiling, just to name a few. They married in December 1972, and in 1974 had their son, Brad, who resides in Yakima. Fran and Lynn celebrated their 50th anniversary with their family in December 2022. Fran spent many years working around the valley, at Burkhardt Dental Supply, Voelker Fruit, and Valley Auto Body, retiring in 2016. Fran was a caring and giving person, always brightening everyones day with her cakes or serving her infamous biscuits and gravy, to those she called her automotive "family". Many knew her as their other mom or grandma. She took everyone in and helped in their time of need.Fran put many hours into the Yakima Fire Departments Christmas adopt-a-family program, from fundraising, to buying gifts, and organizing the wrapping party for delivery by the firefighters to those in need. Fran cooked for everyone, including weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, a surprise cake on Wednesday, because she was bored on Tuesday night. From baklava, biscuits and gravy to Zucchini bread and everything in between, always baking for those she loved. Her true passion was time with her grandkids, spoiling them every minute that they were with "Grandmon" and "Papa". If they needed anything, Fran and Lynn were there, rarely missing a game, dance recital, concert. No matter what the grandkids were doing, they were there. Fran loved to spend time with family. Camping side by side, mainly on the Washington and Oregon coast, with Westport being their place of choice to visit annually, many times sitting in their camp trailer looking at the view, watching the grandkids, and drinking coffee. She also enjoyed traveling. Whether it was a simple day trip through the Ellensburg Canyon, Seattle for a baseball game, California for a week in Disneyland, or Hawaii for a tropical adventure, just as long as it was with family. As she started getting weaker, we recognized something was not right, and had to nearly drag her to the doctor. She had been ill for a while, telling us everything was fine. In November she was horribly sick, nearly losing her life. Kim drove her to the hospital, and that was the beginning of the diagnosis of Colorectal Cancer. Fran had surgery in January, and that gave us three and a half more months with her. In her final week, she even found the energy for her love of planting, one last time. Frances is survived by her husband of 50 years, Lynn Pfaff, sons, Jeff (Kim) Pfaff, Brad (Katie) Pfaff, grandkids, Andrew (Jessica) Pfaff, Justin Pfaff, and Allison Pfaff, siblings Wanda LaCoste, and Tim (Jill) Rodgers, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Maude Rodgers, son Christopher Smith, and siblings, Arthur Rodgers, Anna Maravelias, Eugene Rodgers, and Grant Rodgers. A Memorial Service for Fran will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 9:00am, at Brookside Funeral Home (500 W. Prospect, Moxee, WA 98936).
