Frederic Ishmael Hoppis Obituary (2023)

Frederic "Fred" Hoppis was born in Hansen, Oklahoma, on August 8, 1933, to Lewis Monte and Thelma Hoppis. He lived 90 years and went home to be with Jesus on November 16, 2023, in Yakima. Fred enlisted in the Navy in the early 50s, served four years, rising to the rank of third-class petty officer torpedo man, and was honorably discharged. He often spoke of life on the destroyer, USS Colahan, and loved sharing adventures with anybody who was interested. After coming back to Yakima, he married Marie on June 9, 1956, and soon graduated from Perry Trade School, where he became an accomplished carpenter, working for several companies and was able to start his own company H & H Woodcrafters (which his son John has recently restarted!) He passed on his love of working with his hands to his three sons. They all enjoy the memories of learning and spending time with him in his shop. His passions were fishing, tying flies, smoking fish, camping, and woodworking, playing cards and board games with his family, which usually ended up with him telling bad "Dad Jokes" and the rest of the crowd laughing and kidding around. Though his life he provided faithfully for his family by a commitment to hard work and he was dedicated to creating a home for them. He deeply loved his wife and protected her without hesitation. Gods word was always valued along with the saving grace of Jesus Christ. The verse Ephesians 2:8, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God" was treasured by him and inscribed on the inside of his wedding ring. He is preceded by his inseparable mate of 65 years, Gladys Marie Hoppis. Left behind are his five children, Diane Hanks, John, Scott, Teresa Smith (who sacrificed to be a loving caregiver to her dad) and Adam, 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Fred, as he was known by most, left this world after living in a loving home with Diane and Malcolm Hanks, Freds daughter and son-in-law. The family would like to sincerely express their thanks to Mountainview Home Healthcare, and all the incredible caregivers, who showed love and compassion to him.
