George Gordon Prescott jr Obituary (2023)

George passed away in Yakima, Washington, at the age of 89, after a life filled with many adventures and not without some challenges. Born in San Francisco, "Uncle George" was a true storyteller who captivated audiences wherever he went and was the life of any party. He was both a talented dancer and singer. George also loved volunteering his time cooking and feeding the homeless and low-income families in Daly City, California. As a young boy, at the end of the Depression, George and his two older sisters were sent to live on a farm in Vancouver, Washington, where they worked for their room and board and went to school. George then joined the Navy and throughout his life shared wild tales of his time onboard (and off) the USS Diphda while stationed in Japan! A daredevil to be sure, he loved motorcycle riding and racing with his buddies around the Bay area. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, gardening, and later in life (once he slowed down) he was often found reading mysteries, watching movies, and trying out new recipes. George found love and was married twice. Together with his first wife, Shirley (Hurte), they had two children, Susan Marie, and Gordon George, of California. Later he met his second wife, Gloria (Seagrove), whom he often referred to as "the love of his life." George made his career as a bus driver for Greyhound (both short and long routes) in Northern California for more than 23 years, where his passengers were entertained by his antics and stories! Once retired, he left Daly City, California, and moved to Washington State to be closer to family. He split his time between Spokane, Colbert (residing with his niece AnneMarie Lewis for a number of years), and then Yakima, where he later settled near his niece, Michelle Lewis-Braley, who lovingly cared for him until he passed. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Manor in Selah, Washington, for taking good care of our "Uncle George." He is preceded in death by his much-loved sisters, June (Brown), Dorothy (Lewis Morrison) and Kay (Margaret Bradley) and his parents, George G. Prescott Sr., and Phillis Anderson (Margaret Jurling). He leaves behind many friends, family, as well as nieces and nephews who loved him. He will be deeply missed. The family is planning a Celebration of Life in the summer.
