Jack J. McGuire

–

Ellensburg, Washington

Jack J. McGuire, age 86, died at home on May 16, 2018 after a brave battle with cancer.
Born February 5, 1932 in Pender Nebraska, he lived in Chehalis Washington and eventually settled in Yakima. Jack joined the Army in 1952 and was stationed in Germany. Jack was married for 62 years to the love of his life, Dorothy (Dottie). Jack and Dottie met in Yakima where they lived their entire married life. Jack worked for the family businesses', McGuire Lumber Co., Inc. and Rahier Trucking. He, like his six brothers, grew up working in the company their father Mel started in 1944. Jack started driving truck, hauling lumber from the mills to the yard, and later hauling produce to and from California. Jack spent several years dispatching the fleet of trucks, and as the company grew he finished his career working behind the counter selling lumber. Jack enjoyed interaction with customers and employees as well. He always had a kind word to say and never forgot a name. Jack retired in 1993 and he and Dottie made the most of their time. They enjoyed extensive travel in their motor home, or just jumping in the car and taking off for a week or two. There were very few places they had not seen, or adventures not had. They were fortunate to not only see most of the United States, but also several trips to Europe, visits to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, cruises to Alaska, Panama Canal, and the Caribbean. They had several close friends they cavorted with, and the hijinks are legend.

Survivors include his wife Dottie of Yakima, son Brian McGuire (Katie) of Yakima; Granddaughter Jori Reames (Zach) of Clarksville, TN; and Grandson Max McGuire (Sara) of Yakima. He also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Alvina McGuire, his brothers Richard, Robert (Bob), Dale, Larry and Dennis (Denny).

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 6th at the Foursquare Church, 700 N. 40th Ave. Yakima, WA.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at North Star Lodge for their kind and compassionate care, and to Memorial's Hospice service for their assistance and advice.
