Jane Marie Fichette Mortimer Obituary (2023)

Jane F. Mortimer, 74, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. She was born in Morton, Washington, on June 19, 1949, and grew up in the little town of Kosmos, in the Cowlitz River Valley. Later her family moved to Renton, Washington. She earned her nursing degree in 1971 and had a long and fulfilling career. She worked in various specialties at Harborview Medical Center in her early career, and then spent many years working at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Jane worked in maternity for many years, and always had a passion to help wherever she could. Jane lived in western Washington, Hawaii for a time, and then made the Yakima Valley her home, from 1980 until her passing. She was married to Brian Mortimer for many years and had a son, Andrew. She loved to travel, having been to New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Mexico, and all across the U.S., exploring many areas. She enjoyed learning about nature and the outdoors throughout her life. Geology and birds were some of her favorites, along with archeology and wild plants and flowers. She loved to share her passion for these with her grandkids, Natalie and Greyson. Natalie especially loved learning about bird identification from her grandma. As age limited Jane, her grandkids would always bring her discoveries and treasures from their expeditions and show her all the things they found. She had a bright, caring personality, and her happiness and humor was contagious. Jane will be dearly missed by her family and many dear friends. Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Chet and Jessie Frichette, sister, Sharon Frichette, and sister, Darleen Cassidy. She is survived by sister, Ellen Frichette, son Andrew Mortimer (Jerica) of Yakima, grandchildren, Natalie and Greyson Mortimer, brother-in-law, Jim Cassidy, sister-in-law, Carla (Lyle) Tiberghien, and nieces, Gwendolyn (Martin) Holt, Mariah Pollard, and Athena Laquerre.
