Janet Francis MCMAHAN Obituary (2024)

Janet F. McMahan passed away at Fieldstone Memory Care on September 10, 2024, at age 94. Janet was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on December 31, 1929, to John Jesser and Alice Gundry. The family relocated to Seattle, Washington in 1942 and migrated over to Wapato, Washington in 1945. In Wapato, Janet met her husband, Robert (Bob) A. McMahan, where the pair married on June 1, 1946. After marriage Janet and Bob created their home on the McMahan family land along West Wapato Road and Lateral B Road in which they lived for over 70 years and raised two children, Alan McMahan and Nancy Michel. Janet was a loving and caring wife and homemaker. She loved to cook and bake, especially over holidays where she could host family and friends. Janet was known for entertaining and looking good while doing it! Whether it was family or their close group of lifelong friends, the McMahan house was a fun and welcoming place for all. Janet also helped where needed around the family farms. She jumped in and oversaw the grape harvest for her father-in-law or fruit harvest when her husband Bob was starting out. Janet loved her yard, it was her pride and joy and truly represented who she was, immaculate. In the winter months, Janet and Bob loved traveling in their motorhome. They traveled all over the United States spending lots of time in Arizona, California, and anyplace along the Pacific coastline. Janet loved her family, she is survived by her son Alan (Kris) McMahan, daughter, Nancy Michel, and her grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany) McMahan, Jonathan Michel, Sr., Michelle (Josh) Hellstrom and Heather Michel. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Jesser, in-laws, Omar and Irene McMahan, husband, Robert A McMahan, sisters, Gladys Neece Christie, Elsie Baughman, Dolly Bliss Farmer, brother, Martin (Sonny) Jesser, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marilyn McMahan, and son-in-law Gerald (Jerry) Michel. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 11:00am at Reservation Community Memorial Park in Wapato, WA (5161 W Wapato Rd, Wapato, WA). A Reception will be held at the Yakima Arboretum. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to Nile Women's Club.
