Jean Caroline Holtman

–

South Cle Elum, Washington

Jean Caroline Vieira was born on June 15, 1925, to James and Nelle (Lewis) Vieira in Sierra Madre, CA. She passed to be with her Lord on January 18, 2026. She grew up in the Sierra Madre Canyon at the base of Mt. Wilson, where she hiked and roamed the mountains with her brother Robert and sisters Olive, Jessie and Virginia. She accepted Jesus as her savior at an early age and followed Him all her life.
On her 20th birthday she enlisted in the U.S.Army and served in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in Germany with the Army of Occupation after WWII. She had an adventurous spirit, and looked back at these years with pride and satisfaction.
At the end of her service she returned home to Sierra Madre and married Reginald Doughty, with whom she had three children: Linda, Ginger and Robert. She also continued to serve in the National Guard...until they discovered she had three young children. (She wasn't aware that wasn't allowed in those days!) She was a member and Deaconess at Sierra Madre Congregational Church, and served faithfully as a choir member and choir secretary.
She enjoyed her career as an executive secretary at Burroughs Corp. in Pasadena, then in the early 1990s she retired and moved to Cle Elum to be near her daughter Linda and son-in-law Vic Dimit. She became a member of Cle Elum C&MA Church (now Cle Elum Alliance), where she served as a Deaconess and was active in Bible studies and the Seniors group for many years.
Jean enjoyed playing tennis and golf and became an avid baseball fan; in CA for the Dodgers then in WA for the Mariners. She was always ready to play a card or board game with friends and family. She loved music and played the harp and piano. She loved to read, and also looked forward to taking road trips-often solo-to visit her sisters in California, her daughter Ginger in Colorado and several national parks. She visited Hawaii and Israel, and traveled several times to stay with her son Rob and his family in Pennsylvania.
Jean celebrated her 100th birthday in 2025 and was honored to be presented with a veteran's quilt by the Red Barn Piecemakers. She will be remembered for her sweet smile, sense of humor and love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and her three sisters. She is survived by her children Linda Dimit and Ginger (Bob) Davis in South Cle Elum, and Robert (Chris) Doughty in PA; granddaughter Shannon (Mark) Brinton in FL; grandsons Noah Doughty and Joshua Doughty in PA; great-grandson Sailor Gieger in CO; and nieces and nephews Michele (Mark) Brading, Sue-z (Lonnie) Gaskin and Glen Dennee in CA.
