JoAnn Nowlin

JoAnn Nowlin, of Yakima, WA., age 75, lost her battle with cancer October 23, 2016. She was one of six daughters born to Clarence L. and Helen E. Volavka. JoAnn, with her husband Robert D. Nowlin, loved to spend time with her family camping at Bumping Lake, fishing for white fish on the Columbia River and catching salmon at Seiku, WA. She enjoyed planting her vegetable garden (she did not enjoy weeding it) and harvesting, canning and sharing all it had to offer. She was active as a school volunteer, a Davis High School Band Booster and she was the recipient of the PTA Golden Acorn Award while her children, Matthew Nowlin and Sarah Nowlin, attended school. In her latter years she found great happiness sharing her wisdom and life lessons with her two adoring grandsons, Christopher and Chevy Nowlin.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Helen Volavka, her sisters Nancy Gocke, Gloria King, and Mildred Girmus.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert D. Nowlin, her son Matthew Nowlin, her daughter Sarah Nowlin, her grandsons Christopher and Chevy Nowlin, her daughter in-law, Shannon Nowlin and two sisters, Mary Kautzman (Clancy) and Doris Cothern.

At her request there will be no formal services.
