John Raeford Gibb

–

Ellensburg, Washington

John Raeford Gibb passed away peacefully in his home with loving family by his side on January 7th, 2014 at the age of 94.
He was born to David Thomas Gibb and Sarah Mendenhall Gibb on September 6th, 1919 in Hillspring, Alberta Canada.
He often told stories of raising sheep and riding horses to school in that beautiful prairie country.
In 1934 the family migrated to the Kittitas valley and settled in the Thorpe area where his father leased a farm on crop shares and did carpentry jobs to provide a living for the family. He lost his dear mother a year after they moved here in 1935, which had a deep impact on him as a young 16 year old boy.
When he graduated from High School he and his brothers worked 160 acre piece of ground south of Kittitas, for the down payment the first year and this was the start of his farming career.
He met Lynene Ruby Wall from Wenatchee and they were married in the Cardston Alberta Temple on May 31, 1944. She passed away in October 2012 after 69 years of Marriage.
They raised 7 children, Michael (Gary) Rowe, Linda (Al) Shaw, John (Cathy) Gibb, David (Shannon) Gibb, Kevin (Julie) Gibb, Robin (Bob) Main, and Lisa (Dave) Lujan. They had 31 Grandchildren and 57 Great grandchildren.
He farmed here in the valley until he retired, but he was always considered part of
'The Farm.'
He loved farming but would often say 'He wasn't raising crops he was raising a family.'
He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many callings and especially loved working with the Scouting organization. He lived a long and happy life and we will miss him.
He is survived by his children and brothers Jesse and Byron and stepbrother Manford Hansen.
