John James BRISCOE Obituary (2025)

John James Briscoe, loving husband, father and friend passed away at home in Selah, Washington, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. He was born in Yakima, Washington on March 10, 1962, to Marilynn L. Briscoe and step-father Harlen T. Briscoe. John grew up in Yakima Valley. He graduated from Zillah High School in 1980. He moved south for a few years with his best friend Chuck Peebles, driving trucks and having fun. Missing his family, he returned to Yakima, where he met his wife, Danielle K. Petrea. He knew she was the love of his life, and they were married in 1986. They soon welcomed their two sons, Jake C. Briscoe, 37, and Zachary J. Briscoe, 34. John worked for Ellensburg Telephone / Consolidated Communications for 28 years and had recently retired in December 2023. He loved to travel, work in his yard, and spend time with family. He enjoyed being in the mountains hunting with his father, sons, brother Jerry, uncles, and cousins, fishing at Rimrock Lake with his parents, or camping with family and friends. These were special moments to him. He deeply loved his family and friends, and cherished time spent with his five grandchildren, Jackson, Carter, Becken, Kash and Lakelynn. He loved cooking wonderful meals, taking care of his family and friends, and was there to lend a hand or strike up an easy conversation wherever he was. He took great pride in being a husband and parent, and was especially proud of the men, husbands and fathers his sons have become. John was preceded in death by his father, Harlen T. Briscoe, Helen and Jack Harrison, Betty and Abe Briscoe. He is survived by wife, Danielle Briscoe, sons, Jake (Chelsea) Briscoe, Zack Briscoe (Cheyenne Merritt), his brother, Jerry (Dena) Briscoe, his five grandchildren, sister, Michelle Briscoe, brother, Todd Briscoe, sister-in-law, Valoy Briscoe and mother, Marilynn L. Briscoe. John lost his heroic battle against liver cancer. His family wishes to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff of Swedish Medical Center, Quality Medical Clinic, and Heartlinks of Yakima. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 1:00pm at Wenas Cemetery (11440 N Wenas Rd Selah, WA). A Celebration of his Life will be on Sunday, March 30 at Bron Yr Aur, Naches from 1:00-4:00pm (12160 US Hwy 12 Naches, WA). His friends and family are invited to share happy memories and celebrate John's life in the way he would want to be remembered - as a loving and caring man who enjoyed life.
