Joseph Miller Dahl Obituary (1947

Joseph Miller Dahl, 68, of Moxee, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Cottage in the Meadow surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 13, 1947 in Yakima, WA to William Judson and Jean Ruth (Altmeyer). The family moved to Seattle when Joe was six years old. They later moved to Edmonds, WA where Joe graduated from the class of 1965 at Edmonds High School. He attended Seattle Community College where he received a degree in the Automotive Machinist Program. He met and married Joan Elizabeth Rogers on August 17, 1968 in Edmonds. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era from 1969 and served until 1975. Joe managed Fleet Repair on behalf of Bestway Motor Freight Co for ten years while also owning and operating J&H Mobile Lube Service. Joe then joined his family in the tug and barge business, Alaska Outport Transportation Co from 1977 until 1981. The family then moved to Moxee WA, calling it home for the last 34 years. While living in the Yakima Valley, he was employed by the Antique Gun Shop where he learned the art of antique gun restoration and gun smithing. He later opened his own business, Fagan's Gun Shop. In 1994, Joe began working for Habitat for Humanity as a volunteer and was later hired as a site supervisor for six years before retiring in 2000. He continued to complete various support projects for Habitat for Humanity. During his retirement, Joe spent much of his time around the family farm working in his shop where he used his skills as a tradesman to design and fabricate various projects from woodworking to heavy metal. Much of Joe's time revolved around his wife of 47 years, Joan, taking drives through the Pacific Northwest and spending time at their cabin in Liberty. While close to home, days were often filled with trips into town to visit with friends at Yakima Implement and Habitat for Humanity. Over the last several years, Joe's deep love for his family was illustrated in the time he spent with his granddaughters where he took center stage in entertaining them with old time songs, Disney character voices and the art of making a good dessert. He is survived by his wife, Joan Dahl of Moxee, daughter and son-in-law, Tami & Jeff Hall of Boise, ID along with two granddaughters, Emma and Elie Hall; two brothers, Judson Dahl of Spokane, WA and Jesse Dahl of Arlington, WA; stepmother, Virginia Dahl of Dupont, WA and mother-in-law, Dorothy Rogers of Enumclaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Brian Dahl on September 30, 2011. The family would like to express to Memorial Hospice and the staff at Cottage of the Meadow their heartfelt thanks for the loving care and compassion they provided Joe during this difficult time. Graveside Inurnment Services will be Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 2:00 pm at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 4105 Richey Road, Yakima.
