Judy Ann Carolyn Greene Crawford passed away peacefully in the care of her oldest daughter, Anita Emery, and her son, Mark Crawford, in their home in Selah, Washington on February 23, 2026.
Judy was born in Henrietta, North Carolina, to the late Lorene Greene and Lee Greene. She will be joining her late husband, Gene Nelson Crawford, Sr., her oldest son, Gene Nelson Crawford, Jr., her sister Jackie Clark, and her brother, Spencer Greene, along with her parents, as well as her son-in-law, David Emery and many other loved ones in heaven.
Anyone who knew her knew her as the proud mother of her six children: Gene Nelson Crawford Jr., Anita Emery, Mark Crawford, Amber Chandler, Brandie Sargent, and Erick Crawford. She was equally proud of all her grandkids, great grandkids, and great, great grandkids.
Judy spent her life caring for others, from the infants she rocked, to the teens she counseled, to the grandkids she loved and helped raise, to the husband she stood next to; she was the epitome of selfless love and patience.
While she was not a fan of the outdoors, she took great pride in her home and spent her free time listening to books, cooking good ‘Ole Southern Style meals, and making sure everyone in her care was looked after with quiet devotion. She sacrificed many of her own dreams and desires, (she was quite basketball player in her day), to build and nurture her family.
As a young girl, she could be found reading in the shade of a Weeping Willow or showing her soon-to-be husband how to shoot a penny off a bridge with a BB gun. She loved Greek Mythology, “Dark Shadows”, paper dolls, cornbread, a nice pair of silk pajamas, a good mystery, “Murder She Wrote,” “Jeopardy,” doing laundry, and God.
She was “the woman behind the man,” but she was so much more than that. She was the woman behind all of us.
Judy’s last wishes were to be cremated. She entrusted her children to spread her ashes across North Carolina with the ashes of her late husband, and our father, Gene Nelson Crawford, Sr. She declined a formal service, as even in death, she was thinking of others, and did not want to gather in sadness, but in celebration. We plan to gather next Spring, to do just that.
"Nobody puts Judy in the corner"
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, WE KINDLY REQUEST THAT DONATIONS BE MADE TO HER FAVORITE CHARITIES: SAINT JUDE'S HOSPITAL OR THE SPCA.
