Karol Fern Sample Obituary (1968

On September 2nd, 2013, Karol Fern Sample passed away at the age of 44. Diagnosed in the fall of 2011, Karol fought a valiant battle against cancer for almost two years. Through all of it Karol never lost her enthusiasm for watching others enjoy life, or her enthusiasm for life. She was the ultimate optimist to the end. Karol was born in Denver, Colorado on October 11th, 1968 with her twin sister Kathy Sample. At the age of 7, Karol with the rest of the Sample family, moved to Washington State, choosing Selah Washington as their hometown. Karol graduated from Selah High School in 1987. Karol was born an artist. Even as a small child Karol drew all the time. Karol received her undergraduate Bachelors of Arts degree at Central Washington University and then went on to receive her Masters of Fine Arts degree also at Central Washington University (CWU). In 1990 Karol had the opportunity to travel to Ireland and study at UUC Coleraine for a year. Karol loved the water and loved to swim. She joined the Selah Dolphin Swim team as a young child. Never losing her love for the water Karol swam almost every day until her diagnosis, which prevented her from entering the water. Some people are like shooting stars, their brilliance streaks through our lives leaving us with a great sense of awe and wonder. Karol was in many ways like a shooting star, her time with us was too short, but her brilliance and beauty will forever stay with us. Those who had the delight in knowing her sweet, independent spirit will miss her dearly. Karol is survived by her father Roy Sample (Arlie), and her sisters and brothers, Frances Harris (Brian), Jeff Sample (Janet), Mark Sample (Laura), her twin sister Kathy Sample, numerous cousins, and nieces and nephews. Karol was preceded by her mother Patricia Sample. Karol's celebration of life will be held at the Yakima Valley Museum, 2105 Tieton Dr., Yakima WA, on Friday September 6th, 2013 at 4:00 pm, with a reception to follow on the premises. The wonderful staff of the University of Washington Medical Center cared for Karol unconditionally also absorbing much the cost of her care.
