Larry Charles Pryse Obituary (2024)

The family of Larry Charles Pryse of Yakima, Washington, is saddened to announce his passing on August 12, 2024 at the age of 92. Larry was born in Prairie City, Oregon on July 12, 1932 to Jenkins and Arlene Pryse. He will be deeply missed by Gaye, his wife of 50 years, his beloved dogs, Sadie and Gus, his sons Ted (Candy), Scott (Shirley), Mike (Dana), daughters Cynthia and Terri. He leaves behind 15 grandchildren Amber, Tyler, Amy, Taylor, Zachery, Candace, Rachel, Cody, Matt, Chris, Michal, Ryan Nicole, Andrew and Hannah as well as 30 great grandchildren who kept him young at heart. He also leaves behind his brother, Jim (Linda), sisters-in-law LaRue and Billie. Preceded in death by brothers Gary & Bob. Larry was an outstanding athlete at Eastern Oregon University, achieving All League in basketball from 1953-1955 as well as honorable mention All American in 1955. Larry led his conference in lead scorer after playing against Elgin Baylor, who was leading scorer in his conference. During his teaching career at Davis High School, he started a hunting class which included a trip to Alaska. As a coach, he led the Davis basketball team to their only undefeated season of 25-0 and first state championship. He was known for officiating and umpiring at both the high school and college level. Larry enjoyed coaching athletes from little league to professionals and hunting with family and buddies. Following the Mariners and Seahawks with his family was a passion he had until his last days. Larry and Gaye enjoyed their motorhome, travelling with lifelong friends and spending winters in Yuma. A special thanks to Cottage In The Meadow and staff and friend Debbie Zimmerman for her care.
