Marcella Mary Mulcahy Obituary (2023)

Marcella M. (Cyr-Delorme) Mulcahy arrived in the arms of her Lord and Savior on April 26, 2023. She was born in Yakima, WA on November 20, 1928 to Ernest and Margaret (Blondin) Cyr. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1947. As a child she enjoyed her family and summers spent at the family cabin called Squeeze Inn on Chinook Pass. In 1952 she married her high school sweetheart, Ervin Delorme. They were blessed with six children, Christine, Janet, Diane, Kathryn, Barbara, and David. After a short 14 years of marriage, Ervin was killed in an auto accident in April 1965. She spent many years doing volunteer work at St. Joseph Grade School, even served as president of the school parents club. She volunteered as a Room Mother for each of her 6 children, also a driver for many sports events. She was a chairperson on several religious retreats at Camp Field in Leavenworth. She loved every minute of it. She also did volunteer work at the Red Cross Blood Bank and was President of the St. Joseph Altar Society. In 1969 she met and married her beloved husband J.L. (Rusty) Mulcahy. He was a widower with five daughters, Jerie, Renee, Catherine, Roberta and Deborah. They had 47 wonderful years together. They did extensive traveling abroad, Italy, England, Ireland, Scotland, Fatima, Lourdes, Medjugorje and Mexico. They also led several groups on Pilgrimages to Rome, Assisi, Medjugorje and other Holy Shrines in Italy. They especially enjoyed traveling in their motorhome across the US and Canada. They traveled several years with the Elks "Sunchaser" RV group. Marcella had a special group of exercise friends called the "Foxy Ladies". They belonged to a "Potluck Group" that met monthly for over 60 years, made up of family and school friends. Very special times were spent at their cabin at Cliffdell on Chinook Pass. Many years having fun with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Many Cyr family reunions were held there. Many fun work party weekends. Her favorite and most enjoyable times was whenever the family got together, especially at the holidays, birthday, etc. She always wanted to be one of the last to leave, because she might miss something. Many enjoyable and fun times were taking the grandchildren camping. Wonderful memories were made. As her grandchildren grew up and got into sports, football, basketball, baseball, soccer or wrestling, she was their biggest fan. She was always on the sidelines cheering them on. She rarely missed a game. She almost got ejected from a basketball game for going on the floor and yelling at the opponents coach for allowing his team to play dirty (and they were) their coach wanted her ejected, but the crowd was behind her and she stayed. Marcella was a devout Catholic and was very active at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She worked with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Food Bank for over 30 years. She served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. She was a life member of YLI, a Catholic ladys organization. She and Rusty chaired many fund-raising campaigns over the years and served on the Pastoral Council, also on the Building Committee for the new church, after the fire, and on the Transition Committee when the Jesuits left Yakima. They served as Sacristans for the 7:00am daily Mass for 9 years. One of her most enjoyable events late in life, she was honored at a special event for volunteers at the church. She was crowned Queen for her over 60 years of volunteering, it was a total surprise for her. She was very proud of the fact that she was the longest continuous living member of St. Joseph Church. She was baptized there December 23, 1928, a member for 94 years. Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Ervin Delorme and Rusty Mulcahy, brothers Warren and Melvin, sister-in-law Jeanette Cyr, sister Dolores and brother-in-law Vin LaCoursiere and bonus daughters Catherine and Roberta Mulcahy, in-laws Leo and Agnes Delorme, brother-in-law Gerald Delorme, sister-in-law Edi Delorme and sister-in-law Carolyn Clayton. She is survived by her children Chris (Burt) Ross, Janet (Ken) Short, Diane (Ty) Southwick, Kathy (Dave) Hoffert, Barbara Sullivan, David (Joy) Delorme, bonus daughters, Jerie (Mike) Briggs, Rene Mulcahy and Deborah Johnson. 16 grandchildren, 30+ great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, life long friend Teresa Eglin and brother-in-law Pat Clayton. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph Marquette School or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Brookside Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm with a Rosary service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with graveside committal following at Calvary Cemetery.
