Margery Ann Andrews Obituary (1925

Margery (Marge) passed away quietly in her sleep on Friday March 26, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born in Canby, Minnesota on April 28, 1925, the only daughter of Lloyd and Odiela Evenson. For most of her young life she lived in the northern state. During the great depression, her family moved to Bonneville, Oregon. Her father Lloyd was one of the lead engineers that helped build the great dam on the Columbia River. Margery continued to excel in her studies and schoolwork. In a time when men were favored over women, Margery was accepted into Oregon State University. It was there she earned a masters degree in the field of Microbiology. Her studies took her south to the University Berkeley California where she earned her PHD and worked in the Lawrence National Lab. Her work at Berkeley also gave her a chance to explore northern California. It was in the Bay Area that she met the love of her life. Her man was a commercial fisherman simply named Mike. The wild and fancy-free life of a boat captain was so different from her life of academic work. She loved life on the water. The two married in 1953. The family grew up in Walnut Creek California. As the family branched out in many directions, Margery continued to work in the constantly evolving world of Microbiology and new Labs. She worked developing new procedures in Lab work at several Bay Area Hospitals. Eventually she retired in 1993 from the Mount Diablo Hospital group. In her life, Margery was blessed with 2 sons, Michael Lloyd Andrews, Jon Patrick Andrews, daughter Kelly Lynn Andrews and 2 stepdaughters, Diana Brown, and Donna Hawkins. She is blessed with 10 grandchildren and 10 very special great grandchildren. With the boys out of the house, and a daughter who moved north to ranch, Margery decided not to sit at home. She decided to travel the world. Her travels took her to Europe and Asia. On fancy cruise ships she sailed the islands on the Mediterranean Ocean, and Caribbean Sea. She enjoyed conversations with her son Michael who sailed in the Merchant Marines. The two would compare their travels. She was proud that she made one of the initial voyages aboard the new ocean liner, Queen Mary II. But we all know she loved Hawaii, the beach and wiggling her toes in the sand. When travel became more difficult, Margery moved up to Washington State to be with her daughter. Though she loved the ranch life, Marge had a house built just for herself. She did enjoy Kelly and her horses, however, and each year, she loved the annual Ellensburg Rodeo. Her Sons visited often, though she always joked that they came up to just trout fish. Her Holidays were always special. Everyone would get a chance to cook something, but Mom's cooking was always the best. She was never alone. There are many who remember Margery in the sunshine sitting on her front porch sporting her crazy sunglasses. When the sun came out warm and friendly...so did Margery, even on gray days. Folks said Marge had a way with pulling the sun out of the clouds. Every time we see the clouds part, and the sun come out, we are sure that it is Margery up there bringing more warm sunshine into our lives. There will not be a day when we look up and do not remember her. Margery is preceded in death by her parents, and husband Mike.
