Matilda 'Tillie' White Obituary (1931

Tillie White, age 91, passed away on November 19, 2022, in Phoenix, Arizona. She had lived in Phoenix since September 2020, near her daughter, Jan, and enjoyed the sunshine and warmth of Arizona. Most mornings she would start the day with the comment "its another sunny day." Tillie was born in New England, North Dakota on May 16, 1931. Her family moved to Yakima, Washington, in 1937, when she was six years old. At the age of 12, Tillies mother, Lena, passed away, and she chose to leave school to raise her younger siblings, Tony, Anna Mary, and Helen. From that point on, Tillie lived her life selflessly, caring for her children, and anyone else who may need her help. She was always there for anyone who needed her help and never put herself first. Tillie married the love of her life, Leon, in 1951. They had three children, Danny, Kevin, and Jan. She and Leon were the biggest supporters of their children in all they did. Danny, Kevin, and Jan all went to Carroll High School, and you would see Tillie and Leon in the stands with their booster club jackets cheering on the team, whether it was in Yakima, or somewhere on the road. She and Leon did the same for their grandchildren once they came along. In 1995 Leon passed away and mom had to learn how to be on her own again. Her daughter, Jan, had a job that allowed her to frequently travel around the country. Tillie began to go on some of those trips with Jan, and they had many memorable travels, including several trips to New York with Jan, where she was able to bring her sister, Helen, along with her. The biggest trip that she so enjoyed was to Italy with Jan in 1997. She was able to see Rome, where she saw the pope, Assisi, Venice, and Florence. Her last 18 months she had a personal assistant who cared for her, the last 12 months of that in her own home. September Benson was such a gift and blessed mom so much, as well all of us around her. She sincerely cared for mom and did everything she could to make her happy and comfortable. Mom loved her deeply and told her that often. Mom also loved her two grandchildren, Nasia (9), and Tevin (2). If someone upset Tevin, she was not having it and would let you know she was not happy about it! She has become a part of our family and will be forever. Kevin and I gained a sister. Her family and friends will miss her deeply and try to carry on her legacy of selflessness and serving others. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lena Huck, her husband, Leon, son, Danny, brother, Tony Huck, and sister, Anna Mary Fiscus. Tillie is survived by her children, Kevin White, and his wife, Dolores, daughter, Jan Brown, daughter-in-law, Melinda White, her sister, Helen, four grandchildren, K.C, Colby, Jill and Cameron, and five great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Jeremiah, Jordan, James, and Toby. A Rosary will be held at Brookside Funeral Home (500 W. Prospect, Moxee, WA 98936), on December 9, 2022 at 5:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pauls Cathedral, on December 10, 2022, at 10:00am. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family.
