He was a man of few words, but his silence spoke volumes; his thoughtful eyes and gentle spirit brought comfort and wisdom to those around him. When he did speak, his words were wise, measured, and always just what was needed. Mike dedicated his career in Yakima's aerospace industry, building hydraulic systems for airplanes with precision and dependability--qualities that defined him both at work and at home. Yet, his proudest role began the day he became a father to Mitchell Derrey and Molly Perez. In their eyes, he was a hero, and later, as "Papa," he poured his love into his grandchildren, Paisley Perez and Jaxon Perez, with the same quiet devotion that shaped his life. He found peace and purpose in his shop, tinkering with classic cars and crafting furniture. Each piece he built carried his signature: steady, strong, and made with love. His hands were always busy, his heart always full, and his presence always grounding. When Mike was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, his beloved wife Donnetta Derrey retired alongside him to become his full-time caregiver. Their love story, built on decades of partnership and devotion, came full circle when they passed away just two months apart--a testament to two hearts deeply intertwined. Mike is survived by his son Mitchell Derrey and his husband Gary Barthold, his daughter Molly Perez and her husband Michael Perez, and his grandchildren Paisley Perez and Jaxon Perez. He is also survived by his brothers Rick Derrey, Steve Derrey, Rob Derrey, and Brian Derrey, his sister Laurie Robertson, and a large extended family of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Mike leaves behind a legacy not just of things built, but of lives shaped--by his example, his devotion, and his gentle grace. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
