Nancy Bafforo Bracken

–

Ellensburg, Washington

Nancy Baffaro Bracken passed peacefully as she slept on February 26, 2021 at Chandler House in Yakima Washington. Nance was born on October 24, 1946, the second child of Pete and Mamie Baffaro, in Seattle, Washington. She was raised in Kent, Washington, but many of her fondest childhood memories were of summers she spent at Marrowstone Island with her aunt and uncle. There her daily explorations on the beach developed into a lifelong love of observing the natural world with a sense of wonder and humor. Nance earned a B.A. in art in 1970 at Washington State University. She continued her art studies earning an M.A. in drawing at Central Washington University in 1974, and an M.F.A. in painting and printmaking at Washington State University in 1987. In her work she enjoyed wistfully weaving together factual and imaginative elements and leaving the story they tell for the viewer to imagine. Her drawing, painting, and intaglio print works appeared in many invitational and juried shows, and are held in private and public collections around the country.

Nancy was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her husband and companion for over 50 years Edd, her brother Peter (Mary) Baffaro, Nordland, and her sister Toni (Greg) Phelps, Ellensburg.

Sincere thanks to the many caregivers who helped Nance during her 14 year struggle with Alzheimers disease including KVH Home Health, VIP Adult Family Home, and Virginia Mason Memorial Hospice Service. A special thanks to the staff at Chandler House who cared for Nance with much love and kindness during the final six months of her life. At her request there will not be a formal service. A private family gathering and remembrance will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.brooksidefuneral.com.
