Nancy Helen Stockman

–

Selah, Washington

In the summer of 1932 on August 23rd, Nancy Helen was born to Anna and Victor Lamb in Yakima WA. She was greeted by two older siblings Patricia and Victor Jr. and would later welcome Lois and Kathryn.

Shortly after Nancy was born her family would move from a small home on Roosevelt Avenue to a larger family home on Browne Avenue. It was there that Nancy experienced an action filled childhood full of adventure with her parents, four siblings, many neighborhood friends and their family pup Daisy. There were so many memories that Nancy would love to recall and share. Stories of her daddy’s chicken farm, that he purchased without their mom’s approval, Victor Jr. attempting to fly off the roof of their garage, sharing a room with her little sister Lois, Patricia always reading, she was the scholar and director of their moral compass and of Kathryn (Pinky) mom’s favorite and the baby. Nancy always said that she should write a book on her life.

Nancy attended Roosevelt Primary School and later graduated from AC Davis High School. Nancy desired a career in health care and was accepted to St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. She left before completing the program to marry James Scott. Together they experienced life away from home. Moving to California while James was in the military, then to Seattle while he attended Law School and later settling in Selah WA.

Nancy and James welcomed Bradley while in California, Susan in Seattle and Douglas in Selah, the town that would become home. Nancy enjoyed her days as a wife, homemaker and mother. She could be seen most every day getting her long walk in around the neighborhood. She loved the out of doors, always into health and fitness. A health nut before it was a thing. Her children can remember receiving a dose of cod liver oil, molasses or chunk of dead ripe banana, shoved in their mouths on the fly.

Nancy drove a black Volkswagen bug with no air-conditioning, believing fresh air was healthier and no doubt the sweating it out in the summer heat was of benefit also. She put many miles on that bug, traveling into town to go clothes shopping, she loved fashion and had amazing timeless taste in clothing. In the 70’s James and Nancy parted. Nancy went back to school to finish her nurses training, graduating in the top of her class and becoming a certified LPN, an achievement that she was very proud of. She enjoyed her years in healthcare.

In her free time Nancy loved skiing, tennis, dancing and hiking. Climbing Goat Peak with friends was a highlight. She loved to fly and travel, receiving a stamp on her passport when traveling to England was huge.

Nancy instilled a love for music in her children. She appreciated good music, no matter the genre. Nancy attended an Elton John concert in her 80’s and stood up to sing along to Bennie and the Jets and Rocket Man for a truly memorable experience.

Nancy left for heaven at the age of 94, no rocket needed. She was received from this world by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Fly High Mom, we will see you again. Love, your family.

Nancy was the sole survivor of her immediate family. She is survived by children Bradley (Vicki), Susan (Bob) and Douglas (Kim), grandchildren, Tori (Mike), Adam (Emily), David (Chelsey), Daryn (Hayley), Tim, Brittney and Samantha, great grandchildren Oliver, Khaiya, Hazel, Derek and Desmond. We would like to acknowledge her lifetime dear friend, fellow childhood adventurer and spiritual mentor, Glenis Trammell. They shared an unconditional friendship of almost 90 years.
