Wenatchee, Washington
Nicholas Lee Dumas was born on October 10, 1978, to Larry and Eunice Dumas, Woodland, Washington.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Stephanie Dumas, his brother, Kyle Thomas-Hatfield Dumas, his father, Larry Dumas, and his mother, Eunice Hickerson.
His life started as the perfect baby that never complained about anything. His grandparents would often argue about whose turn it was to watch him. As he grew, the love of adrenaline was his main desire, starting with skateboarding to riding bulls and broncs in high school rodeo.
Nicholas starred in the firefighter program at Prairie High School, in Brush Prairie, Washington.
Upon graduating high school, he started a Fire Science degree at Columbia Basin Community College and Spokane Valley Community College. As the rush of adrenaline was boiling in his blood, he started a career with the Wenatchee River Ranger District, learning to fight forest fires from Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico. He formed a bond with his fellow teammates that has lasted his lifetime. He met the love of his life, Stephanie, while stationed in Sequoia National Forest, on the initial attack crew repelling out of helicopters.
As Nicholas was fighting forest fires in the summer, he satisfied the adrenaline rush to work the ski patrol at Stevens Pass and became a strong downhill skier, often jumping off the trails into back country. He gained a love for extreme mountain biking and broke collar bones twice with the chase of that adrenaline.
Nicholas then accepted a job as maintenance manager of the Stevens Pass facilities so he could take any available moment to make a fast run down the mountain. Whatever Nicholas focused on was always 100% effort. He left Stevens Pass and started his own construction company while his wife, Stephanie, worked in customer relations at Stevens Pass. He learned construction at a young age working with his uncle, Max, but not without a taste of adrenaline by shooting a nail through his finger.
His life has been full of laughter and enjoying family and friends sharing his homemade brew and excellent cooking skills. Nicholas’ legend will live on forever in the Wenatchee River Canyon.
