Reginald David Yergen Obituary (2025)

Reginald David Yergen peacefully passed into the loving arms of His Heavenly Father on March 1, 2025 surrounded by his family. Reg was born on January 13, 1937 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Yakima, WA,, to Arnold Fredrich and Ursula Emilia (Wolff) Yergen. He was the second of five children and grew up farming with his dad in West Valley. He graduated from Yakima High School in 1955. Reg met the love of his life, Sandi Barth on Feb 3rd, 1968 and they were married later that year. During their 56-year marriage, they were blessed with two daughters, Debra Yergen and Christina Yergen. Growing up Reg learned the value of hard work, love for the Lord and the importance of family from his parents. After harvest, Reg and his dad would be on the road to California and around the PNW selling fruit from the farm. His parents were active members in their church and encouraged their children to always be involved in the church. As a preteen, Reg would drive the family tractor down to the church parking lot to clear the snow in the winter and turn on the heat. If you ever made him upset, he could quote scripture he memorized from the King James Version of the Bible. As a violin maker, his grandfather was pleased that he followed in his footsteps to become a gifted violinist in his high school orchestra as well as writing music for the orchestra. Reg was a master of anything he put his mind to and a hard worker but the most defining element of his life was his faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. Love for his Lord impacted his entire life and he was ready to share the Good News with everyone he met. With all his time spent on the farm, Reg always said he was never alone as he spent every day talking to God. Reg was a generous soul who helped many people along their journey. One of his favorite scriptures was Matthew 25:40, "In as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me." He would often say "You can not out-give God." In addition to farming, Reg opened Yergen's Paint and Body auto shop in 1969 where he met and became friends with many different people who came through his door. He built many lifelong friendships and many of them continued just to stop in to say hello. Even while working on the farm and at the auto body shop, Reg always prioritized time with his family. He would get up early to go move sprinklers on the farm, come home for breakfast, and head to work. After a full day of work at the auto body shop, he would return home for dinner and head back to the farm. Reg loved fast cars and fast boats. He loved to spend time fishing at Rimrock Lake, camping at Ocean Shores, and to the surprise of many, sitting on a lounge chair under a palm tree in Maui. Reg is survived by his loving wife Sandi (Barth)Yergen and his devoted daughters Debra and Christina Yergen. They will forever be the 4 Y's.
