Sandra Gene Field Obituary (2024)

Sandra Gene Field passed away peacefully December 5, 2024, at the age of 81 in her home with her cherished daughter Julie never left her side. Born April 19, 1943, to Kenneth and Dorothy (Gano) Knerr at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Yakima and raised in Sunnyside. Sandi graduated from Sunnyside High School Class of 1961 and furthered her education at Central Washington College (CWU) in Ellensburg. This is where she got her degree in Liberal Arts and Education. Sandi taught school in Yakima until she had her pride and joy Julie. In 1973 Clayton, Sandi and Julie moved to Bellevue followed by Mercer Island where Sandi had various jobs and social events. Sandi returned to substitute teaching in the Bellevue, Issaquah and Mercer Island School Districts, landing her a full-time job teaching 3rd grade at West Mercer Elementary School. This is where she loved to decorate her classroom using her art skills. Making a special reading nook with stuffed animals, rocking chair and special reading glasses. One winter she creatively built a fireplace out of tissue and butcher paper. The students and fellow teachers of course loved it. Sandi enjoyed joining Facebook and reconnecting with long lost friends and following many of her students, watching their careers and families grow. Sandi is preceded in death by her parents and former husband Clayton. She leaves behind her only child, best friend and caregiver Julie.
