Scott Lloyd Filkins

–

Ellensburg, Washington

Scott Filkins left us unexpectedly on March 10, 2023. He was the adored husband of Margaret Filkins and an incredible father to Carson Elizabeth and Torin Scott. Scott was born on September 6, 1960, in Great Falls, Montana, to Lloyd and Mary Filkins. He grew up in Germany, Spain, and several locations in the Eastern United States.

He graduated from Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, Virginia, and went on to attend the University of Puget Sound (Go Loggers) and Washington State University (Go Cougs). He was an active member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Through his adventures with UPS and Sigma Chi he met and married Margaret (Scarborough) Filkins in 1989.

His greatest joy was being a father, enthusiastic supporter, and hero to his children including his bonus son, Jason.

Scott was a past member of Downtown Yakima Rotary, Past Board President of Yakima Youth Soccer Association, and a relentless volunteer for Wellness House. He spent most of his professional career working for JCPenney in Washington and Oregon.

Scotts happiest moments were spent with his family in their trailer, boating on Banks Lake, and with friends. He was the biggest fan of his children at soccer games, volleyball games, basketball games, football games, track meets, and one ill-fated season of T-Ball.

In the last few years, his devotion to Washington State University was reignited when both of his kids chose to attend WSU. Football games, Dads Weekends, and everything crimson and gray became his greatest memories.

Scott is preceded by his sister-in-law, Vicki Filkins, his father-in-law, Richard Scarborough, and two amazing dogs, Boomer, and Coatie. Scott is survived by his wife, Margaret, and daughter, Carson (Derek), and his sons, Torin and Jason (Cigdem), his parents, Lloyd and Mary, his brother, Jeff, his brother Ross (Stephanie), his mother-in-law, Patricia Doty, his sister-in-law, Dana Mills (Alan), the Eshelman family, and his nine amazing nieces and nephews and their partners, as well as three adorable great-nieces.

A Yakima Gathering will take place at Wellness House (6006 Summitview Avenue) on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. (Casual attire.)

The Memorial Service will be in Tacoma on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 12:00pm at the University of Puget Sound, Kilworth Memorial Chapel (3410 N. 18th Street, Tacoma). Reception to follow in the Rotunda at the Wheelock Student Center from 1:00 to 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Scotts memory may be made payable to Shriners Childrens Hospital of Spokane (www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/locations/spokane), the Wellness House Executive Director Discretionary Fund (www.wellness-house.org), or a cause that makes you think of Scott, and sent in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936), who is caring for the family. Please send the family condolences and special memories about Scott to [emailprotected] or at www.brooksidefuneral.com. The family appreciates the space to grieve privately at this time.
