Sidney Glenn Carlson

Moxee, Washington

Our sweet, kind, generous, and loving brother Sid passed away suddenly November 13, 2024.

Sidney Glenn Carlson was born in Yakima on September 16, 1958, to Eugene Edwin Carlson and Alice Lucille (Owens) Carlson. He lived in Yakima (Cowiche) his entire life and was the youngest of three sons. He remained single all his life.

Sid was a friend to all and enemy to none. He was fondly referred to as Big Sid. He would do most anything for a friend. He would give freely, even though he did not have much himself.

Sid attended Ahtanum Grade School where he made lifetime friends. A group of them played together on a little league team, Bow Beavers, from about first grade to eighth grade. Sid played first base. They won quite a few championships. Sid went on to graduate from West Valley High School where classmates remember him as a heavyweight wrestler.

Sid loved to hunt and fish. As a child, he would fish in the local creeks and bird hunt nearby. He carried his love of fishing into adulthood, buying a boat to fish in Drano. Many of the fish he caught he would smoke. He was proud of his smoked fish which he was known for as he gave much of it away. He also was a good cook. He would spend holidays at Scott and Teresa's or Justin's, bringing his homemade banana cream pie. Sid cared especially for his nephews, never forgetting their birthdays or holidays even though he did not have much money to buy gifts for them (or any of us). This is just one example of Sid's generosity. Sid also enjoyed playing softball and pool. He was a pool league member for many years. At one point he played pool on the same team with his brother Scott and nephews Nathan and Justin. Good memories.

One year Sid went to Hawaii to spend several months with brother Shane. He spent quality time with his nieces, Angela, Katrina, and Jessica. He and Jessica shared a special relationship which lasted a lifetime.

In 1979 he fished in Alaska with his Jovanovich cousins. He ran the skiff which was especially difficult.

Most of his career Sid worked as a concrete finisher until his knee problems would no longer allow it. Those lousy knees gave him tremendous pain. He was creative and could Jerry-rig most anything. Welding was another of his talents.

Sid is preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Angela Carlson. He is survived by his brothers, Shane (Jennifer) Carlson and Scott (Teresa) Carlson, two nephews, Nathan and Justin (Angie) Carlson, and two nieces, Katrina and Jessica Carlson.

Special thanks his friends Bill, Jeff, and Rhonda who helped Sid and checked on him often. Forgive me if I forgot someone.

The Memorial Service will be December 6th, 2024, noon, at Shaw & Sons Funeral Home. Reception/luncheon immediately following.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Camp Hope or Union Gospel Mission.
