Tony Eugene Sloan Obituary (2024)

Tony Eugene Sloan, 79, of Yakima died Monday September 2, 2024 (Labor Day Weekend) at approximately 10:50 am, when he was hit in a head on collision in the 3100 block of W Wapato Rd near Wapato, WA. Tony was born June 29, 1945, in the Yakima Hospital to Tilden Washington Sloan and Winifred Juanita Foster. Brought home to Harrah, WA joining 3 sisters and a brother. He was a good baby, but he had a lot of attention being the youngest of 5 kids. Tony's Dad did not like the name Tony, so he started to call him Butch because he was a big baby. The rest of the family did the same. When Tony started school at Harrah elementary, he did well and got along with his classmates. He was interested in what the Harrah Fire Department was doing and talked to the firefighters when he could. This is when his love of firefighting began. Tony also attended Granger elementary school. Tony went to White Swan for middle school and high school. He always had a fast smile and sense of humor. He was a letterman in Football and was an officer of the Letterman's Club. He was a member of the Student Council and a member of the Cougar Growl Yearbook staff. Tony had a long career with the Yakima Fire Department. He started on Jan. 15, 1968, and retired April 30, 1997. He served as an Inspector - Bureau of Fire Prevention and then a Public Education Officer at the Front St Station. He loved driving his restored 1928 Fire Marshal's truck in local parades with his dog Jules. Tony supported Boy Scouts, The Capital Theatre and was an active member of the Landlord Association. He is survived by two sisters, Faye Phipps of the Tri-Cities, Shirley Nelson Gulotta of Yakima, daughter Robyn Sloan of Yakima, Sister-in-law Carolyn Sloan of Tacoma. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tilden Leon Sloan, Gary Sloan and sister Darline Abrams Seefeldt, son Charles Sloan, and wife Karen Foss. Services will be Friday October 4, at 2 PM at Brookside 500 W Prospect Rd. Moxee, WA 98936. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Yakima Humane Society in Tony's name.
