Waer J. Niemiec Obituary (1925

Our Beloved father Walter J. Niemiec passed away September 7, 2013 at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. Wally was born in St. Paul Minnesota on September 15, 1925. He attended Catholic grade schools and was proud of the fact that he was an alter server during his grade school, high school and war years and at one point was asked to lead the stations of the cross when a priest was unavailable. During his high school years he worked pert time in the Northern Pacific rail yards. At 18 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was trained as a navigator and reconnaissance officer. He was stationed in Europe and completed 35 combat missions in a B-17 bomber. Returning home in 1945 he continued his career with the Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroads moving up the ranks. He retired in 1982 and relocated to lake front property to enjoy his hobbies of hunting and fishing. He married his grade school sweetheart, Geraldine Sandusky in 1948. They were married for 63 years and raised 3 children, Sylvia Ann ( McClintock ), Mary Rose (Jones) and Walter J. Niemiec Jr. Dad was an accomplish Do-IT-Your-Selfer and woodworker. If we had a plumbing, electrical or upholstery problem he was ready to go to work. Furniture that was discarded Dad saw beauty in. He meticulously sanded and refinished them do they looked new again. These pieces are all treasured in our homes. Walter was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine, brothers Joseph, Raymond and a sister, Sister M. Rozetta O.S.F. He is survived bu his three children, Sylvia McClintock of Yakima, Mary Jones and her husband George of Issaquah, WA and Walter Niemiec Jr. and his wife Vicki of White Bear Lake MN, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Through his gruff exterior he was a kind, gentle, generous, loving father and devoted Catholic. He was our Hero. Memorials may be made in memory of Walter J. Niemiec to; Sisters of St. Francis., 6832 Convent Blvd. Sylvania, Ohio. 43560. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 AM, Friday, September 13, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at West Hills Memorial Park, followed by a reception at the Church Hall.
