Dick & Janet (Roy) Knautz served the Yakima & Kittitas County communities with honor for decades. Janet also served as President of the Washington State Funeral Directors Association. Dick was appointed by Governor Gary Locke to the Washington State Funeral & Cemetery Board. Together, Dick & Janet were involved in various local organizations. In addition, Dick managed a large corporate funeral firm in Yakima, and Janet served as a licensed Funeral Director & Licensed Pre-need Insurance Agent. Having the vision that small town, family owned funeral firms were the solution to overpriced & corporate conglomerates, they stepped out in faith as founders of Affordable Funeral Care, later becoming well known as Brookside Funeral Home & Crematory. They built their reputation and recognition as leaders in our community by caring for families well. When retirement years came, they hand selected the Mohler family to carry on their legacy. Now they enjoy traveling, spending time together, and assisting Brookside Funeral Home with services, family support, and mentorship. Dick & Janet still love and support the staff who is working diligently to serve our communities, just the way they did, with honor, ethics, and compassion.
